Third Annual Swing for a Cure Presented by Marsh Supermarkets & Pharmacies a Huge Success for JDRF

(Indianapolis—July 23, 2008)  The third annual Swing for a Cure JDRF golf outing was held on July 21 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, and raised over $65,000 to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes affecting millions of children around the world.  More than 15,000 children are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year in the United States alone. Diabetes accounts for over $174 billion in annual healthcare costs in the United States.

The combined efforts of JDRF volunteers and Marsh Supermarkets & Pharmacies helped drive the event to its most successful year since inception three years ago.  Over 29 other corporate sponsors and contributing local restaurants, made sure the full field of 136 golfers enjoyed a fantastic day out on the course.  Jim Shella from WISH-TV Channel 8 welcomed the golfers as the official emcee and made the special announcement to the attendees that JDRF was successful in achieving its $65,000 goal.

“The greatest benefit for golfers, besides a great day of golf and camaraderie, was the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child with juvenile diabetes,” said Doug Brune, JRDF Golf Committee co-chair, along with Bob Fowler.   In 2007 Forbes magazine again featured JDRF as a  Best Nonprofit” citing the organization’s fundraising efficiency and sound focus on its mission.
